Ostopovice Library (Brno)
21–23 November 2025
Martin Parr is, without exaggeration, an icon of contemporary photography. A member of the legendary Magnum Photos agency, the author of over a hundred books and exhibitions, and the creator of a highly distinctive visual language that blends humour, irony, empathy and an unflinching gaze at everyday life.

His photographs of beaches, supermarkets, small-town festivities, weddings and political campaigns are both sharp and tender – and it is this very tension that gives them power. Parr has brought documentary photography into galleries, museums and the public space. His work has influenced generations of photographers around the world – and yet he remains open, curious and engaged in dialogue with students, emerging artists and the everyday world around him.
At the invitation of photographer Roman Franc and his British colleague and friend Jon Tonks, Martin Parr will spend several days in Brno this November. During this special visit, there will be a public lecture, informal meetings with photographers, and an open portfolio review for students, professionals and anyone interested in photography.

PROGRAMME
Friday 21 November 2025
18:00 – 22:00 Martin Parr: Life Through Photography
Where: Ostopovice Library
We recommend arriving a little early – around 17:00 – so you have time to settle in, greet familiar faces and ease into the evening. The talk begins at 18:00.
After the lecture, there will be an open discussion where you’re welcome to ask Martin Parr anything – about his work, his approach to photography, his thoughts on current themes in the field, or any questions and doubts you may have in your own creative practice.
Whether you’re wondering about technique, direction, or simply looking for reassurance that you’re not alone in your uncertainty – feel free to speak up. You don’t need a “perfect” question – quite the opposite. The aim of the evening is to share, to ask, and to talk openly about what’s on our minds as photographers, students and makers. Who knows – your question might open up a conversation we’re all waiting to have.
Capacity: 90 people
Fee: 540 CZK (inc. 12% VAT)
SOLD OUT
The fees are set to help cover the costs and to make the event possible. We also understand that the price might be a challenge for some. If you are unable to afford the fee, please don’t hesitate to contact us – we’ll find a way.

9:30 – Would you like to receive honest, direct feedback on your work from one of the most influential photographers of our time? This is your chance. Each participant will have 20 minutes to present their portfolio in a one-on-one conversation with Martin Parr.
The portfolio review is open to students, emerging and practising photographers – anyone who is looking for perspective, reflection or guidance in their creative path. Parr speaks directly and without pretense – and that’s exactly what makes this such a valuable experience.
Each review will be individual, but quiet observers are welcome. We believe there is just as much to gain from watching how others present their work and hearing their stories.
Capacity: 12 participants
Fee: 2 300 CZK (inc. 12% VAT)
